Hattiesburg City Council asks questions about voter rolls

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg City Council met in special session Monday to make certain the cities voter rolls were correct.

Several city residents had recently approached Ward Five Councilman Henry Naylor saying they had been moved incorrectly to new precincts following redistricting. The inaccuracies were found  in wards, two, four, and five.

Last Monday the council asked City Clerk Eddie Meyers to meet with the Forrest County Circuit Clerk, where the cities voter rolls are maintained to make sure residents were placed in the correct ward.

The council wants to make sure the rolls are correct prior to the upcoming city election.

"We think it's been worked out where if there are still some out there, it will be a very small number," said Naylor. "We're pleased with the way things have been going with the cards going out to the residents so they will be voting in the right place on May 7th."

Those notifications will be mailed out soon to all registered city voters.
