Hey there, trendy Wendies. Are you ready to deck your house out for spring? These four projects are fun and easy, and you totally can do them yourself. Let's get crafting!
Vintage porch accessories: Vintage is in style. If you want your house to look hip, it's got to be decorated in that new old fashioned way. Decking out your porch so that it would fit in on Nantucket in the 1950's is a sure way to make a style statement. Old patrician-and-preppy porch furniture and accessorizes, used exclusively and without interference from anything modern at all, make for a dose of style that might not get you into Harvard, but might make your porch stand out as the most stylish porch on the block. Wooden rocking chairs, the kind found on the decks of yacht clubs, can be found used in thrift stores and easily refinished. Grab some classic striped outdoor pillows for those rocking chairs. Accent the sitting area with a vintage croquet set, or let some vintage badminton rackets do double duty as decor or a fun lawn game. Don't forget a vintage drink cart...you'll need somewhere to put down your vintage crystal tumbler of rum when you run out to give your old friend from high school a noogie.
Garden hose spring wreath: This puppy is perfect for vintage front porches, or for country cabins. To make this summery and festive wreath, which is a perfect gift for your favorite gardener, you'll need a 15-foot garden hose, a twist tie, clip-on butterfly, silk flowers, and ribbon. Coil the garden hose and secure it with the twist tie. Stick the stems of the silk flowers into the twist tie. Place the garden gloves over the flowers and the twist tie, and secure with ribbon. Add the optional clip-on butterfly, and hang from a hook on your door. This wreath is both on-trend and classic...amazing when that happens!
Rain boot vase or planter: Did you think you needed to be a professional painter or something to do trendy spring decor projects? All you need is enough energy to shop the discount shoe rack at your local big box store. A trendy project this spring is to use cute rubber rain boots as decoration. One Hometalk member took it to the next level by hiding vases in the legs of a pair of rain boots, and using the boots for displaying flowers. You could also stuff the legs of the rain boots with plastic bags, and then put a small potted plant in each leg of the boots. Got vintage rain boots? Make rain boot planters part of a vintage porch scheme.
