Akron Police investigate fatal shooting at McDonald's

AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Akron Police were called to the McDonald's at 390 West Market Street for a shooting just before 11 p.m. Saturday night.

Police say the victim, a 28-year-old employee at the McDonald's, was taking out the trash when he was confronted by the suspect near the back door.

The suspect fired several shots, striking the victim multiple times.  The victim was transported to Akron General Medical Center where he later died.

The Summit County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy later.  The victim's name is being withheld pending positive identification and family notification.

The suspect is a medium complexioned black male, 22 to 27 years old, 5'07" – 5'10", 150 – 180 pounds, with a moustache, and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

The suspect was seen in a dark colored SUV, possibly a Ford Expedition or a Cadillac Escalade with tinted windows.  The vehicle was last seen traveling southbound on Valley Street towards Crosby Street.

McDonald's released a statement Sunday afternoon:

"Our entire Rubber City McDonald's family is shocked by the tragedy at our West Market Street restaurant. We offer our prayers and sympathies to the family of the victim. The safety and well-being of our employees and customers is our top priority. We are cooperating with the police investigating this incident and defer any questions to them," John Blickle, McDonald's Owner/Operator, Rubber City McDonald's.
