Congressman Steven Palazzo (R-MS), Mississippi's fourth congressional district representative, today announced winners of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition for the fourth congressional district. The competition was held Monday at Pearl River Community College in the Technology Building Multi-Purpose Room.

"The art competition has been a great way for us to highlight all the talented young artists we have in South Mississippi," Palazzo stated. "I am always impressed with the quality of work that students submit, and this year was no exception."

Sydney Gargiulo's winning piece entitled Gulf Coast Blue Crab is an oil painting on canvas. It will be put on display for one year in the U.S. Capitol tunnel alongside the winners from the other 434 Congressional districts. As the 2013 winner, Sydney will visit Washington, D.C. this summer for a reception honoring the winners. Congressman Palazzo's Gulfport district office will also feature the work of overall runner up and first place in mixed media, Marissa Hakes of Petal High School, for her piece entitled Alter Ego.
