Tyndall talks about job openings

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

It only took one season for Donnie Tyndall to break the school record for wins in a season by a University of Southern Mississippi men's basketball team. Naturally, the chatter has already started about other coaching opportunities, and whether or not Tyndall would leave Hattiesburg so soon.

Make no mistake, he's a hot commodity in coaching circles after the 2012-2013 season. Golden Eagle fans can breathe a little easier now that vacancies at the University of Southern California and UCLA have been filled, and multiple reports state Texas Tech University reached out to Tyndall almost a week ago.

The Red Raiders have since hired Tubby Smith, who won a national title at the University of Kentucky. Tyndall spoke at USM's "Eagle Nation Rally" at Sander son Farms Inc. in Laurel on Tuesday night, and stated this is not uncharted territory for him.

"I was at Morehead state the last six years, and I went through that the last three years I was there. Every spring," said the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 11 Coach of the Year, "I would have never left Morehead State if I didn't think that the place I was coming to wasn't a special place and a perfect fit for me.

"The people of Hattiesburg, the campus community, the support our team was given this year was phenomenal. I'm very proud to be the basketball coach here at Southern Miss."
