NEW Exciting Addition to Spirit of Women Spring Event Features Sam Haskell PLUS 12 Additional Renown

The following is a news release from Forrest General Hospital:

As previously announced, this year's Spirit of Women Spring Event will feature a celebrity who happens to be from right here in Mississippi – Sam Haskell. Now, Spirit of Women announces a new addition to the event lineup that will offer attendees a chance to meet 12 notable Mississippi natives who recently contributed to the new book Coming Home To Mississippi!

The new book, published by University Press of Mississippi, features a diverse lineup of contributing essayists native to our state who have made a name for themselves. In fact, one of the contributors is none other than the event's keynote speaker, Sam Haskell! During the Spring Event, copies of this brand new book will be offered for sale, along with an exclusive autograph session provided by twelve of the book's contributing essayists. Those confirmed to be on hand at the event include Charline R. McCord, Judy H. Tucker, and contributors Carolyn Haines, Sam Haskell, Alice Jackson, Jo McDivitt, Johnnie Maberry, Marco St. John, David Sheffield, Cynthia Walker, Wyatt Waters and Dolphus Weary. According to University Press of Mississippi, this beautiful book about home contains essays by 34 Mississippians who examine their lives, their memories of Mississippi, the reasons they left the state, and what drew them back. They talk about how life differs and wears on you in the far-flung parts of our nation, and the qualities that make Mississippi unique. Often they found that opportunity was within their grasp in their home state and came back to realize their full potential. They came back, in some cases, to retire to a familiar place of pleasant memories, to family and to friends. They all have a love and respect for Mississippi and continue, back home, to use their talents to help make the state an even better place to live.

This year's Spring Event, titled "Lessons Learned: Promises Kept," will take place on Tuesday, April 30 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center at 11:30 a.m. Attendees will be treated to a keynote address from Haskell centering on his autobiographical memoir "Promises I Made My Mother," a delicious luncheon, beautiful surroundings and fun with friends. Following the luncheon and keynote address, attendees will be able to purchase both Haskell's book AND the new Coming Home To Mississippi, including an autograph session with Sam Haskell and 11 of the contributing writers. Entertainment will be provided by well-known Petal native Jonathan Brannan, who recently appeared in the Universal Pictures film Pitch Perfect.

The event will also feature the 2013 Spirit in Action Awards, honoring Pine Belt residents for their work in making their community a healthier, safer and more inspirational place to live.
