LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Lamar County residents are invited to attend the dedication ceremony Thursday morning for the renovated Lamar County Circuit Courthouse.

Work on the 108-year-old building began about 15 months ago. The most noticeable external feature is a fully-restored clock tower, which was destroyed in a fire in 1934.

Inside the building, first floor offices have been redesigned, a courtroom balcony has been re-opened and a west side staircase has been rebuilt.

The price tag for the project was about $4.5 million.

"The process has been a long one," said Chuck Bennett, Lamar County administrator. "We kind of took our time and we were trying to be good stewards. The county only borrowed about $3million. The rest we kind of paid for as we went," Bennett said.

The ceremony at the courthouse Thursday begins at 10 a.m.
