Sunday afternoon, March 31, a Jones County couple escaped injury in a one-vehicle rollover accident on Highway 84 East.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. medical first responders and rescue units with Powers Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident which occurred in the eastbound lane of Highway 84 East between Keahey Gore Road and Lawn Haven Church Road.  Upon arrival they found a silver Honda Odyssey on its side in the trees along the highway.

The driver and passenger were able to exit the vehicle on their own prior to rescue units arriving.  Neither appeared to be injured and refused transportation to the hospital by EMServ ambulance service.

The male driver of the vehicle stated that the vehicle hydroplaned when he hit the grove of the highway which had just filled with water from a sudden heavy downpour.

Also responding to the accident was Jones County Sheriff's Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol.
