SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Every October classic car lovers flock to South Mississippi to enjoy Cruisin' the Coast. Last year's event brought in 6,169 cars from 41 different states.

Executive Director Woody Bailey said, "You don't want to mess with that formula too much, but you want to do some things different too to give them the opportunity to do something different and see the coast in a different light."

So this year Pass Christian will be the newest venue.

All registered cruisers must make a pit stop in the Pass to get their cards stamped.

Mayor Chipper McDermott said, "We have Scenic Drive which distinguishes us from the rest of the Coast and our harbor will just about be complete out here."

Last year the city held an event and because it was such a success the Main Street Association applied for a grant to be able to sign on as a full Cruisin' venue.

Main Street Association President Adam Pace said, "Our people are one of the biggest assets and our people are also our business owners to show off our unique gifts and seafood so we like to show off just our charm."

In Diamondhead cruisers will start at the south end and cruise the scenic route through the residential area and make a pit stop for the first ever blessing of the classics.

Bailey said, "As you know we have a very deep history here on the Gulf Coast of the Blessing of the Fleet all our shrimp fleets and now our pleasure boats too so that's a steep tradition for us on the Coast."

Diamondhead Councilman Hank Holcomb said, "We have a lot of things to show off in Diamondhead we like to show off. We think it will be great for our residences too,. Can you imagine if of course? I'll be busy, but pull out your lawn chair and sit on your front lawn and watch all the cruisers go by and wave at them."

With seven months still to go already 1,535 cars are registered.

Bailey said, "We shattered our records last year and that was very exciting and we are on the path to do that again this year."

And Bailey expects the new sites to add even more excitement.

"I just think it's going to be a tremendous addition to the Cruisin' family," Bailey said.

This year's Cruisin' the Coast is October 6th through the 13th.
