LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Folks who share a love for dogs and cats and home-made desserts gathered at a local animal hospital Saturday morning to raise money to help homeless pets. Cakes, pies, brownies and other goodies were available for purchase at a bake sale at the All Animal Clinic for the Hub City Humane Society.

That organization was founded two years ago.

About a half-dozen supporters of the shelter prepared all the items.

"Every little bit helps," said Judy Pierce, organizer of the event. "I'm just a dog person, I have one of my own and I love him so much and I just feel bad for the ones that don't have homes," she said.

"There's a lot of work that goes on with housing animals, feeding them, cleaning them, taking them in and getting them checked out into new homes," said Dr. Kirk Frazier, a veterinarian at the All Animal Clinic and volunteer with the Hub City Humane Society. "They need all the help they can get," he said.

About two dozen different baked goods and some craft items were sold during the event.
