Southern Miss surrenders late lead, loses to UCF 4-3

Posted: Updated:

It looked like the University of Southern Mississippi baseball team was headed for its first winning streak since their season-opening sweep of Missouri, but an uncharacteristic breakdown by starting pitcher Andrew Pierce cost the Golden Eagles.

With his team up 3-nothing, the senior pitched shut-out baseball through seven innings, but gave up three earned runs in the bottom of the eighth. Cody Livingston gave up the go-ahead run immediately after, and Southern Miss fell to the University of Central Florida 4-3 in game two of the series on Friday night. The loss went to Livingston, and the Eagles fell to 10-16 in the year.
