HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Several pro-life groups gathered in Hattiesburg Friday afternoon to speak out against the expansion of Planned Parenthood in the Hub City. Pro-Life Mississippi, the Pine Belt Life League and others hosted a prayer vigil and rally on South 27th Avenue at the new location of Planned Parenthood Southeast's Health Center.

The groups want that center closed, because it's affiliated with the national Planned Parenthood organization which performs abortions.

"They are supposed to do pregnancy tests and that sort of thing, but the majority of the money that is given to Planned Parenthood by the government is used for abortions," said Kathy Greene with the Pine Belt Life League. "And we would like to see this Planned Parenthood facility closed down, because they are associated with the national Planned Parenthood organization, whose job it is to kill babies," she said.

Planned Parenthood Southeast, Inc. issued a statement which said, "By moving to a larger facility in Hattiesburg, Planned Parenthood has been able to expand the preventative health care service provided to include HIV testing, lifesaving cancer screenings, birth control and well-woman exams."

About 40 people took part in Friday's prayer vigil and rally.
