Hattiesburg High students earn scholarships to William Carey

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Sixty students from Hattiesburg High School have earned scholarships to William Carey University.

As part of the schools plan to prepare their students to  take the ACT college entrance exam, they partnered with William Carey to offer ACT tutoring from university scholars. More than 70 students signed up for tutoring and 60 completed all four earning a $4000 scholarship.

The tutoring sessions were designed to give the students an idea of what to expect when they take the exam to give them the best chance at getting the highest possible score.

"I was pleased that we had over 60 students to commit to coming to the sessions after school for an hour and a half, four sessions to prepare for the ACT," said Robert Sanders, Principal, Hattiesburg High School. "We were very pleased and proud of that and I was just excited to see that our students are excited about moving to the next level and going to college."

The scholarships will be applied once a student meets William Carey enrollment requirements.
