USM takes UCF series opener

Jake Drehoff earned his first win of the season, and the University of Southern Mississippi baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak, downing the University of Central Florida 4-1 on Thursday night.

Drehoff allowed four hits and a run, but fanned six in eight innings of work. Mason Robbins lead the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and drew a walk. The Golden Eagle offense, with a little help from a few costly UCF fielding errors, managed four runs, and dealt Knights pitcher Ben Lively his second loss on the year.

The Eagles improve to 10-15 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. First pitch for game two of their series in Florida is set for 5:30 pm on Good Friday. A win would give them their first winning streak since their season-opening sweep of SEC opponent Missouri.
