HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg residents got a close-up look Thursday night at what a redeveloped Hardy Street might look like in the coming years. City engineers, planners and designers presented a final concept of a revamped Hardy Street corridor to folks at a community meeting at Hardy Street Baptist Church.

It's part of an overall update of the city's land development code. It divides 2.2 miles of the area from Highway 49 to downtown into four distinct districts...Parkhaven, Kamper Park, Arts and Entertainment and The Oaks.

Input from residents on Tuesday helped complete the project.

"They (districts) each have their own distinct characteristics and assets which we can build upon as we seek to redevelop Hardy Street," said Bob Barber of Orion Planning Group.

"We're looking for some initial phases to be ready in early June and then, throughout the summer, we'll have some more hearings and hopefully, we'll get this adopted later this year," said Donovan Scruggs, planning manager for Hattiesburg's Department of Urban Development.

Images from Thursday's presentation will be available for viewing soon online at www.fullsteamaheadhattiesburg.com.
