Shreveport mayor slapped with lawsuit over dog park

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The Shreveport Dog Park Alliance has followed through on a threat to sue Mayor Cedric Glover over his refusal to sign off on the funding for a dog park in the city.

Shreveport Dog  representative Cynthia Keith filed suit against the mayor on behalf of the organization in Caddo District Court on Thursday afternoon, one day after the mayor made it clear that his position had not changed on building the park.

Glover has told the council before that a dog park is not high a high priority compared to other projects. On Tuesday, when asked for an update on the status of the project, Glover told the council, "My position has not changed."

The lawsuit claims Glover "exceeds his lawful authority, fails to do his duty, and violates his oath of office by refusing to follow the clear, non-discretionary and unambiguous mandate of Resolution 133 of 2012."

Alliance attorney Daniel Keel says the suit is asking the court to order Mayor Glover to sign the cooperative endeavor agreement, which was approved by the city council. "The city council passed it, Mayor Glover vetoes it, the city overrode his veto and he just sat on it, so we are asking the court to force him to sign it."

The current plan would put the first facility of its kind in the city in Hamel Park along the Red River.
