BYU defeat Southern Miss 79-62 in the third round of National Invitational Tournament Wednesday. Daveon Boardingham led the way for the Golden Eagles with 18 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Jonathan Mills added six points and 15 rebounds.
Southern Miss (27-10) finishes the year tied for the second highest win total in school history with 27. The Golden Eagles are 8-8 all-time in NIT play and 4-2 at home.
This marked the first time Southern Miss has made it past the second round of the NIT since 1987, when the Golden Eagles won the championship.
