New hotel-casino plans to bring hundreds of jobs to AZ

LAVEEN, AZ (CBS5) -

Gila River Gaming Enterprises, Inc. is opening a new hotel and casino in the Valley and plans to hire hundreds of workers for the restaurants and bars.

Vee Quiva Hotel and Casino said the job fair will take place Tuesday, March 26 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club Kimatke Branch located as 5047 W. Pecos Rd. in Laveen. [Click here for a map of the location.]

Applicants are encouraged to bring their resume and a photo ID.

The company said up to 150 applicants will be hired, some on the spot.

Restaurants in the casino and hotel include the first Ditka's, founded by Mike Ditka, Fatburger, Panda Express and Los Reyes de la Torta, a west valley restaurant that was recently featured on Man v. Food on the Travel Channel.

Vee Quiva is expected to open in July.

Vee Quiva will be the third Arizona casino owned by the Gila River Indian Community. The other two are Lone Butte that opened in 2008 and Wild Horse Pass that opened in 2009.

    A 10-year-old boy was shot in Laurel today. According to Laurel police chief Tyrone Stewart, the child is currently at the South Central Regional Medical Center.     A child was injured on Friday evening after an accident on a ride at the South Mississippi State Fair in Laurel. Fair representative Pam Holyfield said that a little girl was on a ride called "Up, Up and Away" when the seat on the ride came loose and the little girl fell out of the ride.  The fall knocked the girl unconscious, according to the little girl's mother. The child was taken to South Central Medical Center in Laurel where they are awaiting test results. ...
