SAN LUIS, AZ (CBS5) -

A Phoenix man was arrested Saturday for attempting to smuggle nearly 14 pounds of meth into the United States, federal authorities said.

Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection referred Ricardo Martinez, 34, for an inspection of his vehicle when he attempted to enter the U.S. from Mexico.

A CBP narcotics detection dog alerted to the presence of drugs. Officers said they located a hidden compartment underneath the engine which contained 10 packages of meth.

The drugs and vehicle were seized. Martinez was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
