HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra will close out their 93rd season Thursday night .
The orchestra will perform Mahler's Fifth Symphony written in the early years of the 20th Century.
The concert will be held in Bennett Auditorium starting at 7:30. Tickets are $14 and $18.
Dr. Jay Dean, Orchestra Conductor, calls Mahler's Fifth one of the most extraordinary, emotional works in the entire body of symphonic literature. He says Mahler was fascinated with marches and the symphony abounds with them.
"Gustav Mahler wrote nine symphonies in his life and this was his fifth," said Dean. "All of them are extraordinarily difficult to perform, but they are very rewarding to perform and very rewarding for the audience."|
