Hub City resident celebrates a century of life

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Hattiesburg celebrated a birthday on Sunday, but not just any birthday, a 100th birthday.

"I feel good," said 100 years old, Louise Bland.

At 100 years old, Louise does more than the average person.

"She plays a song for Sunday school, she teaches Sunday school, she teaches mission on Monday nights," said daughter, Bertie Graves. "She sings in the choir, she works as a pastor's wife and deaconess, and she is just faithful."

Fortunate, unlike many, Louise's daughters are just thankful to still have their mother.

"I look at her as an inspiration to women in general because she had five children and she divorced her husband and made us what we are today," said daughter, Dorothy Lucas. "She is a blessing to us."

"It's truly a blessing to know that she is my mother," said Bertie.

After living a century, Louise hopes to continue enjoying life one day at a time.

The WDAM First Alert Weather Team has enacted a First Alert Weather Day for the Pine Belt due to extreme heat this afternoon. This morning is not too bad as we start out with temperatures in the mid 70s, but this afternoon is going to be awful. The heat will get an early start as temperature reach the 90s before lunchtime. The humidity will make it feel more like the low 100s around that time frame but it doesn't stop there. Temperatures will continue to rise into the afternoon as hi...
