ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
The Darton State Cavalier gym was filled with almost all the high school basketball talent in the region at the 3rd annual All-Star Saturday event.
The event included a girls and boys high school all star game along with 3 point shooting contests and a dunk contest for the boys. It was also topped off by an elementary All-Star showcase and a Legend's all star game featuring the 1990-1999 graduates from Albany high against those from Randolph-Clay.
Over 2,000 people came out to this year's event. Organizer Eanest Brown says the showcase has grown over the last few years and his vision of giving South Georgia athletes a chance to be seen has come true.
Brown said "The main thing that we're concerned about is the scouts so many college scouts view the event as a great event. They come out every year from Georgia, Florida, Alabama and they offer these kids scholarships and that's the main reason for having this event. The response has been terrific. Their were kids that pretty much didn't have anything to do after graduation. Now some of those kids have received scholarships and they've come back and even spoken today."
Brown also added that he plans to make next year's event an All-Star weekend rather just one day.
