BRUNSWICK, GA (WJXT/CNN) - The search is on for a young suspect in the shooting of a mother and her baby in a small, coastal community of south Georgia.
Police say the 13-month-old baby was killed while riding in a stroller Thursday morning.
The mother was also shot multiple times but is expected to survive.
Officers believe the gunman is between 13 and 15 years old.
They say he was with another boy who was a couple of years younger.
It's not known if the mother and child were the intended targets.
"That is something we do not know at this time," said Brunswick Police Chief Tobe Green.
Neighbors were in disbelief about a baby getting killed, especially at the hands of another child.
"You hear about these places where things like this happen," said Guynel Johnson. "You say it's not going to happen here, but it happens everywhere, sadly."
