Department of Health holds youth-led tobacco prevention program

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Mississippi State Department of Health's youth-led tobacco prevention program Generation Free presented it's Inspiring Future Leaders Youth Conference 2013 on Wednesday.

The one-day conference held at the Lake Terrace Convention Center focused on educating middle school students in grades seven through eight on how they can help reduce youth tobacco use in their communities.

The iFly Conference included keynote speaker, Shaun Derik, a lifelong musician who connects his music with youth messages.

    East Marion volleyball finished 20-5 a season ago, falling to the eventual state runner-up Resurrection in the first round of the playoffs. The Eagles are hungry for more in 2017. "They have that fever," said sixth-year East Marion volleyball coach Mandell Echols. "They want to take [Resurrection's] place and end up winning the championship."
