Dr. Christine Williams of the University of Texas at Austin will present the lecture "Gender Inequality in the Toy Store: How Gender Shapes Where We Shop, How We Shop and What We Buy", March 21 at 4 p.m. on The University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus in the Liberal Arts Building's Gonzalez Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the lecture.
Williams is a professor and chair of the Department of Sociology at UT-Austin and has earned awards for her teaching and research, which centers on gender, race, and class inequality in the workplace. Her presentation is part of the University's program for Women's History Month in March.
She is the 2012-2013 recipient of the Distinguished Lecturer Award from the national organization Sociologists for Women in Society. Southern Miss was one of only two universities to be competitively selected this year for a campus visit by the SWS Distinguished Lecturer.
