Hattiesburg residents cover the city in green for Irish Italian Parade

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The City of Hattiesburg was covered in green as hundreds of residents came out to enjoy the 2013 Irish Italian Parade on Saturday.

The 13th annual parade began early at 10:30 a.m. on West 4th St. and ended in front of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

More than 50 floats participated in this year's event, and passed out candy and beads for all to enjoy.

Although St. Patrick's Day is not until Sunday, hundreds of residents wore their green early to celebrate the day and also to honor the feast day of St. Joseph.

This year the church named Eddie Holloway as Grand Marshal, and Denise Ervine and Ryan Hendley as the 2013 Irish Italian Festival Parade Colleen and King.

Celtic Mass will begin at 4 p.m. and the Irish Italian Festival will be from 5 – 10 p.m.
