JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The pedestrian who was killed when he was hit by an 18-wheeler on I-59 Friday morning had an encounter with Laurel Police Thursday night.

Harold Brightman, 52, of Pearl River, La. told Laurel Police he had broke down on I-59 and while walking to get help he was robbed at gunpoint. According to a spokesperson from the Highway Patrol Brightman was taken back to the police department and questioned. When they were finished Brightman asked for a ride back to his car and he apparently started walking south along the interstate.

At around 6:30 a.m. Friday Brightman was struck and killed by the 18-wheeler in the southbound lane near mile marker 84 south of Ellisville.

The 18-wheeler belongs to Frisards Trucking out of Gramercy, La.
