JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge doesn't quite agree with all the details in a news release his public relations department released Tuesday.
Sheriff Hodge is backing away from this quote: "We have seen a spike in gang activity in Jones county and if it is in Jones county it is in neighboring counties and cities. These gangs have organized and are involved in the sale of illegal drugs, burglary, larceny, aggravated assaults, and the sale of stolen and illegal weapons."
It's a statement his PR Director, Wanda Benson, placed in a press release promoting the county's efforts to combat gang violence.
Hodge said the county is working on combating gang activity with a grant they received from Project Safe Neighborhood. However, he said his department can't specify where there is an increase in gang activity in the county.
