LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Since 1968, the PGA Tour has had a stop in Mississippi. Starting in July, that stop will be sponsored by a Pine Belt Company. Sanderson Farms, Inc. of Laurel has agreed to be the title sponsor for what will now be known as the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Last year, the event was sponsored by True South, and called the True South Classic. From 2007 to 2011, it was known as the Viking Classic, but most remember it as the Magnolia State Classic, which brought high-profile players such as Craig Stadler and Payne Stewart to Mississippi.

The Magnolia State Classic has its roots at Hattiesburg Country Club. The Sanderson Farms Championship will be held July 18-21 at Annandale Golf Club in Madison. An official announcement on the partnership is expected on Tuesday at 10:00 am in Jackson.
