HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
The University of Southern Mississippi Foundation has announced
their Moffitt Health Center Campaign.
The state-of-the-art health center is expected to house the
university's student health services.
"We're currently in a fifty year old building and will be going
into a brand new facility," said USM Foundation Executive Director, Bob Pierce.
"The space for our clinic is going to be doubled to 13,000 square feet and
we're very excited about the project."
As part of one of three buildings of the Century Park South
Project, the Moffitt Health Center will be located on the first floor of
Century Park South Building A.
The new and larger facility will feature 15 private exam rooms,
new classroom space, and has been made possible thanks to the generosity of a
long time USM faculty member and her family.
"Our lead gift for this campaign came from Virginia and Howell
Crawford, however Dr. Crawford was a Moffitt before she got married and her
parents had made contributions to support the current clinic," said Pierce. "Between
those contributions and a $400,000 gift from the doctors Crawford, that enabled us
to name the facility for her parents."
The Moffitt Health Center is scheduled to open in January 2015.
