MOSELLE (WDAM) -

The Labor Department and its Occupational Safety and Health Administration are citing Southern Hens with 43 safety and health violations after an employee was killed last September.

The citation comes after Ronnie Duff, 39, died. Authorities say Duff was on a ladder cleaning an auger machine at the Moselle plant last September when he apparently slipped and fell into the grinder.

An OSHA official says, "Employers cannot allow workers to be exposed to unguarded equipment or other workplace hazards."

Southern Hens could be fined as much as $160,000. The company has 15 business days to comply, contest the finding or request a conference with OSHA.
