Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Walker has identified the woman found dead in the cemetery of East Mount Olive Baptist Church Wednesday night.
Bassfield and Baldwyn traded blows throughout the first half of the 2A state championship, but the second half belonged to the Bearcats. Baldwyn outscored Bassfield 40-25 in the second half on the way to a 66-46 win in the boys 2A state championship.
The Yellow Jackets are at their best when they can play a fast paced, up-tempo offense, but Baldwyn took Bassfield out of its usual game. "Baldwyn did an outstanding job of forcing us to play their tempo tonight. We never could get going the way we like to get going," Bassfield head coach Charlie James said after the loss.
Bassfield shot 40% from the floor Thursday, but the Yellow Jackets only convert 1-of-13 from three. The Bearcats hit 5-of-13 threes on 50% shooting from the floor.
Bassfield finishes the year with a record of 24-6, and head coach Charlie James says he could not ask for anymore. "It's been a great year. These kids have played their tails off. I couldn't be more proud of them right now."
The Yellow Jackets were led by Ron Logan with 13 points and six rebounds.
