HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Dozens of people in Hattiesburg brought their cash and their canines to a local pub Thursday night to help homeless pets. Pets and pet owners took part in the 4th annual, "Pints for Paws" at Keg and Barrel.

It was a fund raiser for Southern Pines Animal Shelter and the Spay and Neuter Clinic.

The event featured live entertainment, a silent auction and a pet photo contest.

"Fund raisers like this really help fill the gaps in our funding," said Valerie Rachal, research and development manager at Southern Pines Animal Shelter. "Only about one-third of our funding comes from municipalities...it's largely from donations and fund-raisers," she said.

Organizers were hoping to raise about $5,000.
