HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of people gathered at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center Thursday night to focus attention on HIV/AIDS and its affect on women, especially minorities. Attendees to the 2nd annual Sister 2 Sister event were invited to wear red and in particular, red shoes to show solidarity with women living with HIV and AIDS.
The event is held in recognition of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
"it is a part of our outreach effort to educate the Pine Belt area about HIV/AIDS, its transmission, its risk and how not to be infected," said Tonya Green with The Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative, Inc.
That organization sponsored the event.
