MESA, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

Police say a man and woman are dead after an apparent murder-suicide inside the Phu Thanh Vietnamese restaurant in Mesa, located in the 800 block of west Southern.

Mesa police arrived on the scene just before 6 p.m. Thursday and said they found an adult male and an adult female dead of apparent gunshot wounds.

It appears the male shooter entered the restaurant from the back door and shot a female cook to death. He allegedly then went into the dining room and shot a waitress before shooting and killing himself. That waitress, police tell CBS 5, was taken to the hospital and is going to be OK.

Rudy Tellez, a barber who works a few doors down, described some of the scene.

"I ran out and asked and she told me, 'There's a gun! There's a gun!' So I ran back to see what was going on. The guy had said that he just had killed himself, just killed himself. I seen the lady walking out, holding her hip. I asked her if she was OK. She said yes, she had been shot, so we put her to the side and sat her down to the side, and that's when all the police and them were coming," said Tellez.

Detective Steve Berry of the Mesa Police Department told CBS 5 what officers found when they arrived.

"They found an adult female and an adult male deceased inside from apparent gunshot wounds. At this point, the early  indications are that we are looking at a murder-suicide type situation," said Berry.

The investigation is still ongoing. There is no word yet on the identities of the bodies or the relationship between the shooter and his victims. Police say many of those they interviewed speak Vietnamese and the language barrier was initially posing a challenge to the investigation.
