It was tight game all night, but Pearl River Community College squeaked out a 64-62 win over Southern University-Shreveport Wednesday night in Clinton. The Wildcats advance to the Region 23 tournament semi-finals on Friday against Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Southern University-Shreveport came in with record of just 16 wins and 11 loses, but the Tigers made sure they were not put away lightly by PRCC. The Wildcats held just a two point lead at halftime. After a long battle in the second half, ending with Wildcat guard Xavian Rimmer hitting two free throws with 14 seconds remaining, PRCC came away with the 64-62 victory. "It was an ugly game. I didn't think it was very well played by either team. I don't want to complain too much because we won the game, we're going on to the second round, and that's what we're trying to do," head coach Richard Mathis said after the win.
Kaven Bernard led the way for PRCC with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Xavian Rimmer added 17 points and eight rebounds.
The Wildcats advance to face Northwest Mississippi in the Region 23 Tournament semi-finals Friday. Tip-off is set for 2:30 pm at Mississippi College in Clinton.
