Southern Miss falls 6-5 at South Alabama, loses third straight

Even after rolling out to a 3-0 lead right out of the gates, it wasn't enough for the University of Southern Mississippi baseball team, who lost their third straight game in a 6-5 loss at South Alabama.

Pitcher A.J. Glasshof (0-2) took the loss for the Golden Eagles, who've lost six games since opening up with a three-game sweep of SEC opponent Missouri. After surrendering four runs in the bottom of the first, Southern Miss tied things up at 4 in the top of the second, but watched as South Alabama put two more scores up in the bottom of the second to take a 6-4 lead.

The Eagles managed only one more run for the game that came in the fourth inning. Southern Miss returns home on Friday to start a three-game series with Louisiana-Lafayette at Pete Taylor Park.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported there are now 12 cases of West Nile Virus in our state Thursday morning. Although, every case is serious, that number pales in comparison, to the 247 cases in 2012. Still, you have to put a human face onto these figures to really know what this virus is capable of doing.
