HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Dwayne Davis could finish his University of Southern Mississippi career as the state's top collegiate basketball player. With two games left in the regular season, the senior was announced today as a finalist for the C Spire Howell Trophy, given annually to the best college basketball player in Mississippi.

Davis has averaged 14.5 points per game, which leads the Golden Eagles and ranks 12th in Conference USA. He's scored in double figures 20 times over the course of the year, and has scored 20 in six games.

Davis will be up against Marshall Henderson and Murphy Holloway of Ole Miss, and could be the first Golden Eagle to earn the honor since Gary Flowers in 2011.

The award will be announced from the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in Jackson on Monday, March 11.
