HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
While
everyone celebrates their birthday each year, not many get to celebrate a 100th
birthday.
On Saturday,
resident at Wesley Manor Retirement Community, Verdee Bryant, celebrated a
century of life.
Verdee was
born in 1913 and was the 6th child of Louena and Robert Garrick. She graduated
from Sanford High School and went to Jones County Junior College for one year.
Verdee
married Earl Bryant in 1934, and although she never had children of her own,
she does have many nephews and nieces who she loves and cares for.
While
enjoying a day full of family and friends on Saturday, Verdee says she never
expected to have lived to see 100 years.
"I'm
surprised," said Verdee. "With all the nieces and nephews I have, and the
things they've done for me, I just couldn't do otherwise. God has been good to
me."
Verdee is the
last survivor of her immediate family.
