Jamie Collins didn't get to play in the Senior Bowl due to an injury, but his body didn't show any lingering signs during the NFL combine on Monday. The former University of Southern Mississippi linebacker put his fellow NFL hopefuls to shame by jumping a 41.5 inch vertical jump- a full 2.5 inches ahead of the next best.
He fell just an inch short of breaking the record of 42.5 inches, set by Roger McIntosh.
The 2012 All-Conference USA selection also bested every other linebacker by posting an 11.7 inch leap in the broad jump, and finished the coveted 40-yard dash in 4.64 seconds, which ranked among the top times.
Of note, Manti Te'o, the former University of Notre Dame linebacker who still faces intense scrutiny after a hoax involving the death of his fake girlfriend, finished the 40 in 4.82 seconds. His time ranked 20 out of the 26 linebackers.
