Just in time for Tuesday's region tournament opener against Albany Tech Lady Cavs head coach Lea Henry has been named the Region XVII coach of the year in just her second season leading Darton to a league best 26-3 overall record, 18-2 in the conference.
Its the best regular season finish in school history. Sophomore Michelle Mitchell made her second consecutive all region 1st team. Mitchell leads the Cavs in almost all categories but with all the superlatives coach Henry realizes the work has to be done on the court for the season to be a success.
"If we can just come in and do what we've been doing all year and do it well then I think we're going to have a great opportunity to win but at the same time a lot of things have to go your way. You have to stay out of foul trouble. You have to stay healthy and the ball has got to kind of bounce your way because these teams are tough but I think we're ready."Said Henry
Mitchell added "The potential is great we just have to keep working hard and continue to play as a team and work together."
Forward Chanteniece Fann was a second team all region selection along with South Georgia Tech's Nikkei Blackburn.
