Stringer sentenced for manslaughter

MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Zachary Stringer of the Enon Community in Marion County has been sentenced to serve 10 years of a 20 year prison term for manslaughter.

Judge Prentiss Harrell imposed the sentence Monday morning at the Pearl River County Courthouse. Stringer will be remanded to a new division of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the Youthful Offenders Unit, and be required to pay $15,000 for court cost.

A Jackson County Jury found Zach Stringer guilty of manslaughter for the shooting death of his 11 year old little brother in 2010. Stringer was 15 years-old at the time of his brother's death.

The defense fought for a change of venue from Marion County to Jackson County citing the community outrage and media attention wouldn't allow for a fair trial.
