HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Salvation Army is moving into a new phase of their disaster relief efforts going from a emergency stage to a recovery mode.
"Right now in the initial phase, this coming Saturday we will finish the immediate feeding program," said Captain Andy Gilliam, Hattiesburg Salvation Army. "Then we will transition into long term case management, social services, and trying to get folks re-established in the community."
Several mobile units have been brought in from other parts of Mississippi to assist the Hattiesburg office. These units have been out in the field providing support in the hardest hit areas. They have been providing meals, food kits, supplies, and hygiene kits to those people that need them.
Captain Gilliam says the outpouring of help from the community has been great, but more help is needed with the clean-up process.
