PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

Nearly a week after last sunday's devastating tornado, victims are still telling their compelling stories of survival. In Petal, Cory Carlisle, his wife and two children huddled together in the hallway of their Green Street home to ride out the storm.

Just minutes before it hit, Carlisle learned the twister was coming his way after turning on WDAM-TV. Carlisle's home is directly behind Ace Hardware, which was destroyed by the storm.

No one in his family was hurt.

"It came and went so quick, like they say, I mean, it was over," said Carlisle. "We thought just a tree had come down, when I walked outside, everything was gone. Ace Hardware was gone, I had an 11-foot wall of debris in front of my house, on my house. It's a miracle we're alive," he said.

Carlisle's home was insured and he's thinking about re-building. He also lost two cars in the storm, only one of which had insurance.
