HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
Prentiss native and Utah Jazz center Al Jefferson had seen pictures of the damage in the Hattiesburg area caused by the tornado on Feb. 10, but seeing the damage in person was different story. "It took my breathe away. I'm still kind of amazed just to see all of the damage that was done," Jefferson said.
Jefferson visit one of the hardest hit areas along Oak Grove Road in Lamar County on Saturday, and he knew he wanted to help out any way that he could. The NBA star visited families who were still cleaning up debris, and he had a special gift for a certain family.
Jefferson is buying a car for a family who's home and vehicles were destroyed by the tornado. He says it is the least he could do. "If I could just help someone get through this, it would make me feel better, like I did my part, so I'm grateful for that...I'm happy to come and just do what I can."
