HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The City of Hattiesburg's Parks and Recreation Department held their Annual Arbor Day Celebration at Earl Travillion Attendance Center on Friday.
For the past 20 years, on the second Friday of February, the City of Hattiesburg celebrates Arbor Day in honor of the holiday.
Every year the City of Hattiesburg chooses a school and plants a tree on their campus, and this year Earl Travillion Attendance Center was chosen as the 2013 Arbor Day school.
"We're glad to get as much positive publicity as we can here at Earl Travillion Attendance Center," said Principal Van Jones. "We want to continue the Arbor Day legacy which started in 1872."
The celebration included the Arbor Day Proclamation by Mayor DuPree, a presentation of Arbor Day awards, and a tree planting by the Urban Forestry Crew with a little help of the students.
