Former parent of the year and PTA president accused of stealing from PTA

GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

Former Singing River Elementary PTA President 41-year-old Sue Cunningham of Gautier has been accused of stealing thousands from the school's parent teacher association (PTA).

On Tuesday, Gautier police announced that Cunningham allegedly stole thousands of dollars from the PTA's fund during her time in the association. Police learned of the theft after an audit was conducted on missing PTA money over the last several months.

Cunningham reportedly served as treasurer, president and was parent of the year for the school.

She was arrested and charged with one count of felony embezzlement. Cunningham was later released on a $50,000 bond issued by Gautier Municipal Judge Jason Thornton.
