A tornado watch has been issued until 7 p.m. for parts of East Texas along and north of I-20.
A strong storm or two will develop north of I-20 during the early afternoon. These storms will be capable of producing hail up to the size of quarters, wind gusts to 70 mph, and isolated tornadoes. The main line of storms will be coming through East Texas later this afternoon and evening.
In addition to strong gusty winds, there is a slight chance of hail up to the size of quarters and an isolated tornado or two. The wind field is not as favorable for tornadoes across East Texas as it is off to our east, so we expect the majority of tornadoes to occur in Louisiana and Arkansas today.
This line of storms should enter our northwestern counties shortly after noon today. The line will progress to the east fairly fast around 30 miles per hour with individual storms racing off to the northeast around 50 to 55 miles per hour.
The line of storms should enter the Tyler Longview areas around 4 to 6 this afternoon and Deep East Texas between 6 and 8 this evening. Once the front clears the entire area later this evening, the threat of severe weather will be over and cooler air will move in.
If you have not done so, please visit your smart phone's app store and download the latest KLTV weather app. It is free and will come in handy today with radar and the latest watches and warnings as they are issued.
