LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) - Rep. Steven Palazzo (R, 4th Dist.) is reacting to new gun control initiatives from the Obama administration and the Senate. He said he doesn't believe any gun control bill would pass the House and says instead of restricting gun rights, lawmakers should find ways to keep the mentally ill from obtaining firearms.
"It's not God-fearing Christians going out there and committing mass murder, so we really need to find out is it a certain mental illness and we've got to fix it so these things don't happen again," Palazzo said. "But, we're not going to sacrifice the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution just to appease special interest," he said.
Palazzo was in Lumberton Friday night for an annual economic development banquet.
