HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg businessman and president of the Kamper Avenues Neighborhood Association is running for a seat on the Hattiesburg City Council.

Chris Price hosted a campaign kick-off rally Tuesday morning to announce that he'll be a candidate for the Ward 4 seat currently held by mayoral candidate Dave Ware.

Price is running as an independent.

He said he wants to improve neighborhoods, infrastructure and economic development.

"I think that the infrastructure projects need to be moving forward in a timely manner, to protect the investments made in Ward Four," Price said. And then I believe we need to continue to strengthen the relationships between the neighborhood leaders and city officials, so there's a good dialogue going on all the time that's informative and continues to grow. And also, we need to welcome anyone that's going to invest in our community, in our neighborhood and this ward to continue to move forward and not lose any of the ground that's been gained in Ward Four," he said.

Price will face fellow independent Mary Dryden in the June 4 municipal election.
